We are having the same problem. I notice in our log that something is kicking off our Program document that runs the compact task. This program document is set to only run on Saturdays at 1:00 AM. But here is the entry in our log:
04/25/2003 12:54:48 PM Running Program document for 'Compact mail\ -B -D'

Very srtange. It's a feature!!
